Over the years, alcohol has become synonymous to danger and has been regarded as a threat to one’s health. It has acquired a bad reputation for having no good contribution to health. Antioxidants play three important roles in the cardiovascular functions. First, they gradually lessen the low-density lipoprotein level or bad cholesterol in the body, which is a major threat to one‘s health. On the other hand, antioxidants improve the high-density lipoprotein level, better known as the good cholesterol. Lastly and most importantly, they decrease the possibility of blood clotting. The prevention of blood clots means lowering one’s vulnerability to heart stroke. Complementing a meal with a glass of wine can also augment one’s lipids, which are a primary component in the structures of cell membranes. Aside from their contributions to cardiovascular health, red wines also have a relatively moderate level of the antioxidant called “resveratrol.” According to health experts, a high level of resveratrol may impede the growth of some types of tumours. This means that red wines can actually inhibit the formation of some kinds of cancer. Resveratrol helps in the formation and development of nerve cells that can prevent or treat those who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
