Choosing the Right Glass when Serving Red Wine

There are different shapes and sizes of wine glasses that are designed to match the various types of red wine. Larger ones are known to allow the oxygenation of wines to help improve its taste. On the other hand, smaller ones are suited for red wines, which have a large amount of tannins. With this in mind, if you are uncertain of what glasses to use in serving your special guests with wine, then read on.

First off, for the young red wines, choose a glass, which has a large body to allow oxygenation. However, make sure that it has a smaller width to allow the wine to mostly come in contact with the centre of the mouth. By doing so, you will be able to eliminate the unpleasant feeling caused by the high amounts of tannins in this type of wine.

Second, if you are serving mature red wine, then pick a glass with a narrower opening. This will concentrate and amplify the aromas that mature wines are known for. Lastly, keep in mind that wines with very strong flavours should be served in a glass that has a large body and opening to enhance their taste.
