All about the Different Types of Corkscrews
A corkscrew is an essential device especially for wine lovers. It is used to remove the cork from the wine bottle. It also comes in many different types to fit the preferences of its user. Here are some of the most popular types of corkscrews.
The first in line is the most popular one — the sommelier knife. It is also referred to as the waiter’s friend as it is preferred by most if not all restaurant waiters. This tool can be retracted much like a pocket-knife. It is divided into three parts, namely the foil-cutter blade, the main corkscrew or “the worm”, and a small piece that will sit on the lip of the bottle to produce leverage while it is pulled. Second is the winged corkscrew. It is called “winged” because it has two levers, which basically rises as the worm is manually screwed down. Lastly, the fanciest one is called the rabbit screw. Its style, which resembles a rabbit’s ear, is the reason for its name. This one has handles, which will wrap around the neck of the bottle to hold it in place while the cork is extracted by pulling the lever up and down.
